NAS JRB Fort Worth base housing: the office, the waitlist and the barracks

On-base family housing at NAS JRB Fort Worth is small: Military OneSource lists about 83 homes and says there are no plans to add more, so most people assigned here end up living off base. The Navy Housing Service Center at 1330 Military Parkway handles the family-housing application and the waitlist, and unaccompanied Sailors check in at Building 1568. The official pages do not agree on how long the wait is, and the online waitlist page showed no open lists when this page was checked.

Two other official listings differ from the table. Military OneSource gives the Family Housing Office as 817-782-5710, open Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Balfour Beatty site itself shows Wednesday hours ending at 6:00 p.m., not 7:00 p.m., and lists no Saturday. If the hours matter for a visit, call first.

About 83 homes, and two different waits

Both Military OneSource housing pages for the base put family housing at approximately 83 units, with no plans to add more. They give different waits: the housing overview says a 6 to 12 month waiting list, while the government-housing page says 3 to 24 months. The same overview says most service members assigned to the base can expect to live in community housing.

The privatized community is run by Balfour Beatty Communities as NAS JRB Fort Worth Homes. Its site describes a gated community of two-, three- and four-bedroom rental homes for active duty families assigned to the base.

The family-housing waitlist page on the Navy's My Housing portal (fortworth.myhousing.com) read "No Lists are Open" when it was checked. That page is the online list itself, not a statement about future openings. CNIC says to contact the HSC for the current availability projection and waitlist information.

The 30-day window and your place in line

The application is DD Form 1746 plus a copy of your PCS orders. Balfour Beatty's How to Apply page adds proof of family members and says the documents go to the Navy Family Housing Office first, which then sends the application back to Balfour Beatty to assign a home by rank and family size.

Timing sets your eligibility date. On that page:

Military OneSource adds a reason to sign up inside the first 30 days even if you plan to live off base: doing so keeps government-funded move-in assistance available if base housing is offered later. You can turn down an offer. Wait time is not back-dated if you skip the list and change your mind.

You do not have to wait until you arrive. CNIC's Housing Early Assistance Tool (HEAT) lets a member or spouse start a Navy housing application online before or after orders arrive, and CNIC says a housing staff member replies within 2 business days.

Barracks for single Sailors

CNIC says most E1 to E3 personnel, and E4s with under four years of service, are required to live in unaccompanied housing, and other E4s may be required to as space permits. UH on the base houses about 340 people in 4 buildings, one or two to a room depending on pay grade. Building 1568 is the check-in point, and linens are issued there.

Geographic bachelors, members whose families stay in another area while they draw BAH at the with-dependents rate, are not normally authorized to live in UH. They can apply to an Assignment Review Board for a space-available room. Senior enlisted E6 to E9 can volunteer as resident advisors in exchange for a room.

What the HSC does for people living off base

CNIC lists these HSC services at no charge, for any housing type:

The office also posts the dispute-resolution flyers for privatized housing and the MHPI Tenant Bill of Rights on its resources tab.
